Sanskritization Experiment
I recently did an experiment on Sanskritization, meaning the Sanskrit influence on a language. I did this on Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada, three languages that share similarities. I translated the words Table/Desk,pen,book,chair,tree,flower,sun,moon,water,fire,house,vehicle,dog,cat,bird,mountain,river, ocean, happiness ,and love into these languages .I then used the percentage system to record the data of how many of the words of each language had a Sanskrit root .So, the results are in: Malayalam has the most with 55% of the words being Sanskrit, Kannada in second with a close 50%,and Tamil being more conservative with not many Sanskrit words at 15%.Please note that this was conducted using Google Translate. The two criteria for the translated word were that it was commonly used, and that it ACCURATELY meant the word. Without further ado, I realized that this experiment's results were fairly close to the actual estimates. ...
